Which is precisely the problem; the DM refuses to give us anything close to the amount of loot PCs of our level should have. I made a 5th level character, and was allowed to start with 1 level 1 magic item. WTF.

Heh. My first ever Dnd character, who I played from first to sixth level, managed to accumulate a grand 600 gp worth of wealth. Not just carried items, everthing he owned put together, yeah.
Not through lack of effort either!

Strip mine the dungeons, remembering that anything so much as pre-carved stones making up a building are technically worth more than the surrounding ground. Map every resource you can gain out and haggle to sell it to the highest bidder, trap components, doors, exotic monster meat, exotic "monster"* meat, bone decorations and flutes**, even scrape the blood off cave walls and try to palm it off as a spell component***.
Eventually he should take the hint and make it so that you can get your money's worth from a dungeon without going to such lengths.
*Humanoid
**They're hollow, take a few ranks in craft.
***Genuine Silver Dragon sir, only the finest vintage!
