Re: The Gates of Hell

A word of very advanced warning.

I am currently hosting these on my student account at Georgia Tech, due to the fact I have very little limitations on how it is used and bandwidth has never been a problem. However, I am trying to graduate next spring, which means in a year (2010) I'll have to look for a new place to host them (my account lasts for a full semester after I graduate). Of course, this point is moot if I attend graduate school here.

It's not a problem that needs to be worried about this year, but I would keep it in mind for the future. Until then, I'll keep hosting the GoH material and any other user made material freaks want to make available.

Thank you, Retsej, both for the warning and the current hosting of them. We'll get to work on a backup plan.

I suggest you host them at www.scribd.com

Not a bad idea, Selah. People are more likely to stumble across them via search engines that way, I bet.

These files aren't working. I downloaded them to my desktop but they won't open up. Each time I click on one, it asks for a program to open it with. I went through all possible programs and it still won't work. Please help. I really want to download this material.

I've no problem, neither with downloading and opening it on my desktop nor with directly opening it in my browser. Do you have Adobe Reader installed?

If you need a new place to host the files I can do it. I have plenty of space left over in the hosting package for my website & forum.

I appreciate the offer, and we may take you up on it (due to Retsej's warning), but I think Fafnir's problem is the lack of a PDF reader...I just went through and they all work.

Sorry I should have quoted. I was referring to the warning from Retsej. Just email me if you need to take me up on the offer. I'm happy to help.

Installing Adobe did the trick. Thanks.

I have Adobe installed on my laptop and I still can't see the files.
Enter The World of Folcrin, a message board in the works which will host the material for my campaign world! It's under heavy construction for now but come check it out sometime!

Actually nevermind, the problem was that it wouldn't come up on Google Chrome. It came up just fine for me with Firefox just now. Problem solved.

http://www.hekla.nu/klas/The_Gates_of_Hell/
If you wish I can also link a subdomain (like http://tgoh.hekla.nu/) to it.

My server is always on and runs backups every hour.
5 Mb/s top upload speed though, no bandwidth cap.

edit:
Played around a bit and currently the only thing my server can show is that page.
I'm not pleased with this result and will play around more until it actually works.

Edit again:
Fixed the issue and made an easier hack to link it to tgoh.hekla.nu as soon as the DNS is updated (should happen within a few hours).

Well, that's it. My server should be coming off next week as I've graduated and a semester has past. I'll see about hosting them on scribd, but it looks like you guys have a server already up.

Kinda ironic that I'm hosting them since I'm not even an active member anymore!

However, I've got nothing against hosting them.

Yet another thread to unsubscribe =P

It was a good run while it lasted. Let us fondly regard these memories when we are old and greatly embittered by everything.

Goodness, no. My bitterness is positively mild, and sometimes it gets drowned out entirely by unrelated emotional states. Like the other day I felt giddy or something for a few minutes. You have yet to lay eyes upon the text of KingBitterGenius, for it is still to come.

Also, at 23 only malformed children would think of me as old.
